Coaching, Communications and Change

I am an independent business coach and consultant, and my work focuses on people issues in management. This generally involves helping executives become more effective – by facilitating their own learning and development, or through work with their teams.

Three reasons why you might want to talk to me

1 ‘I am looking for a business coach’
I work as a business coach and help individuals gain insight into their behaviour, and then change in ways that help them achieve their goals faster. A range of very successful executives - some in large organisations, others entrepreneurs - these individuals are united by their desire to explore new ways of working.

My approach is pragmatic, helping senior people with challenging business and personal issues that typically involve complex and conflicting situations. I support them as they analyse and clarify options, keeping them focused on results and outcomes so that we can agree plans that will deliver the best solution.

I also coach management teams, helping them identify and build on what makes them successful. We also explore what gets in the way of the team’s success, and how to unlock its potential.

If you want to talk to me about coaching, these are some issues we can discuss

2 ‘I need a facilitator to help me plan and run some important meetings’
I work as a facilitator of many different types of meetings. Within an organisation this might involve helping management groups articulate and clarify a new business strategy. Or the meetings might be part of a cultural change programme, in which new concepts and behaviours are explored.

I also facilitate meetings between different stakeholder groups – for example, suppliers and customers, partners in a joint venture, or the management of a trade body. I might be asked to help the various parties work towards a common goal, or to restore trust in situations where relationships have deteriorated.

3 ‘We seem to be making a great deal of effort to communicate with staff, but I’m not convinced it is having the desired effect’
I can help management review the way that it communicates – looking at the impact of the communications style, the messages and the channels. My main focus is on face-to-face communications, and what is being said, but the wider context of electronic and printed channels is also relevant.

I then facilitate thinking about what to change, and how to plan and support the changes in a way that will deliver and sustain benefits. This often involves coaching the senior team, and other key players, to help them change the way they communicate and behave within the organisation.
